Much of the folk wisdom your grandma or great grandmother knew has been lost. At Fresh Start – we want to help you re-learn what Grandma knew! Read below for a few of the herbal cures granny used – and come by and talk to us if you’d like to learn more!
FLU REMEDY: Mix 1 tablespoon of horseradish and 1 cup of olive oil and left it to stand for 30 minutes. Massage on chest or aching muscles.
HERBAL MOUTHWASH: Let 3-4 dried sage leaves steep in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Cool then gargle while it is still warm.
COLD SORE TREATMENT: Make sage gargle mix and add 1/2 tsp lemon.
WARTS REMOVAL: Remove flower from Dandelion and squeeze juice onto wart. Repeat 2-3 times a day until wart is gone.
COUGH SYRUP: Boil two cups of water and add two sliced lemons, 1/2 teaspoon of mint or dried ginger, 2 tablespoons of honey. Mix ingredients and bring to a boil to thicken syrup. Add an ounce of your favorite whisky or brandy.
REMEDY FOR STUFFY NOSES: Make a solution of salt water: one quarter teaspoon to a cup of water. Place in spray bottle to inhale or sniff from the palm of your hand.
UPSET STOMACH TEA REMEDY: Add 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile and and 2 teaspoons dried basil leaves to a cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes.
HERBAL BREATH FRESHENER: Bring two cups of water to a boil, add three sprigs of parsley, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Strain and use as a mouthwash.
